"Hunter Jones Joins The Civil War (Missouri)" is an exciting adventure story aimed at 5th graders, kids 10, 11, 12, to try and capture a whole new generation of Civil War historians and turn them into keepers of the flame.
“My hope is with an interesting and compelling page-turning-story the reader will not only walk away with a sense of history but get excited about wanting to learn more about an event that shaped the fabric of America. The character and story are fictional but the historical facts are true and accurate in every detail.”
The next book in the Hunter Jones trilogy will be Hunter Jones Joins the Civil War (Indian Territory). It will explain how the Indians got to what is now know as Okalahoma and why some eagerly fought for the South while others just as eagerly fought for the North. It will explore the Civil War events that happened west of the Indian Territory, including among other events the Texan’s mission to sneak up through the New Mexico Territory and capture the gold mines in Colorado to help pay for the Confederate war effort.
The third book in the trilogy will be Hunter Jones in Arkansas. It will deal with many of the Civil War events that happened in the state of Arkansas - the battles at: Pea Ridge, Prairie Grove, Devil's Backbone, Chalk Bluff, Poison Spring, Marks’ Mill, Jenkin’s Ferry, the Battle at Helena, the Battle at Ditch Bayou (et al) including the blowing up of The Mound City an ironsides at Saint Charles Arkansas and ending with the last battle of the Civil War at Brownsville Texas across the Rio Grande from Matamoros, Mexico and the last General (Chief Stand Watie) to surrender two months after the surrender at Appomattox.
“Yes, my target audience is young readers, the next generation of Civil War historians, the new “keepers of the flame” but frankly anyone who loves to read and learn about the Civil War period will enjoy the Hunter Jones Joins the Civil War series.” Signed Jinx Olson
